Tiling a shower
Wouldn't you like your shower to look beautiful, elegant and classy? Re-do your bathroom by adding ceramic tile for the shower.
Tiling a shower is a great way to lend an aura of elegance to your bathroom and tiling showers can be fun too as you get to pick different colors and designs which you like yourself!
Tiling a shower is not as difficult as it sounds, and you don't even need to hire someone specifically for it. You can even do it yourself. Here's how:
1. Strip the shower down to its bare essentials. That means getting rid of the pan, the ceiling, and anything else that might be on the walls. Keep getting rid of stuff till only the bare shower walls are left.
2. Get a decent water barrier that will prevent water from seeping into the walls and will prevent the growth of algae and mildew.
3. Buy and install a good cement holder which will hold the tiles in place. Avoid putting the tiles directly on the wall because walls tend to crumble and weaken the entire structure.
4. You must take the dimensions of each tile and then measure it against the shower walls to see how many will fit in one row.
4. Obtain and mix enough thinset for one row of tiles. Then multiply this quantity by the number of rows you will have in the shower.
5. Wet the cement board slightly so it does not soak up the moisture of the thinset and make it brittle. Then apply the thinset with a trowel. Apply evenly.
6. Do this for one row and let it set and dry for 24 hours. After 24 hours, repeat for all the other rows and leave it for 48 hours to ensure all the tiles and thinset sets properly.
7. After 48 hours, apply grout in between the tiles. Leave it for an hour or so and then scrape away the excess grout with a flat trowel. Allow the to grout set for 36-48 hours.
And there you have it, your own, self made, tiled shower! It's isn't all that difficult and once you get the hang of it, you can perform shower tiling without much hassle.
